This was one of the first books I enjoyed that i was forced to read. Shakespeare's Secret follows a young girl determined to solve the mystery behind her historic house. Hero's parents are Shakespeare geniuses! They're obsessed. They even named Hero after a character in 'Much Ado About Nothing'. After learning that there might be a diamond hidden at the core of her house, Hero is determined to find it. With the help of her elderly neighbor and new friend, Hero will uncover the mysteries behind her house, as well as Shakespeare's Secret... I loved this book. It never had a dull moment. From the first page to the last i was on the edge of my seat. The mystery that is uncovered blew my mind. I loved how they solved not one, but two quests. Finding the diamond, and finding out if Shakespeare really wrote his own writing. This book might be a little young for you if you're not usually into this sort of story. I read it in fifth grade but it was still a great novel. On Barnes and Noble.com it says its for ages 10-15 but i think its more 7-12. But if you are a fan of mysteries, Shakespeare, and friendship, then this is a great book to read.

I'm sure you've heard about the movie. But I prod you to read the book before you watch the movie! If you've already seen the movie then I guess it's too late, but read the book anyway! The Perks of Being a Wallflower takes place in the early 90's. Its main focus is a young boy (15 years old) named Charlie. We follow him through his loss of innocence and watch him become more understanding, adult-like young man. Charlie isn't your average teenager. His best friend committed suicide right before he started high school, leaving Charlie to find new friends by himself. Luckily, he finds the older, but loyal stepsiblings, Sam and Patrick. Sam and Patrick are seniors while Charlie is only in 9th grade, but they still get along like old friends. When you first meet Charlie, he appears to be a reserved boy who enjoys nothing but reading, but as the story progresses, you find that Charlie doesn't hold this innocent trait for long. Even though he does still act and talk like he first started out talking in the beginning of the book, he commits to new things that aren't always a good idea, but that's part of growing up! At some parts I was somewhat disappointed. I fell in love with Charlie's perfect little personality right from the start, but when he began taking new interests (which I just briefly told you about) I began to lose faith in him. It's not that I don't like him anymore, I do! But it was just like when you're watching a horror movie and the woman is about to walk into the basement and you scream "DON'T GO IN THERE!" and then she goes into the basement, yeah it's that sort of feeling I had with Charlie at some points. But then I realized that part of growing up is confessing wrong doings, getting your heart broken, breaking someone's heart, and most of all, learning from mistakes. Overall, this book was FANTASTIC! I loved following Charlie through his first year of high school. I loved meeting his new friends, his family, hearing his intricate thoughts, and being a loyal friend to him. Also what I loved about this book was that the author begins and ends a subject with 'Dear Friend,' and 'Love always, Charlie'. It made me feel like I was living the book with Charlie. Phenomenal book Stephen! Great job! Everyone! Read this book!!! -Emily Mockingjay is the third and final novel in The Hunger Games trilogy. In this shocking and action packed book, Katniss faces many challenges that will and can scar her for life. Now I know that i've said that in other reviews on The Hunger Games trilogy, but Katniss does face MANY challenges in all three novels. I'm not going to give away the surprises and devastation that took place while I read Mockingjay, because obviously that would totally give away everything that the Reviews page is supposed to contribute. But back to the point! Katniss in in new places and facing new challenges. Now here you are thinking 'How is it possible for Katniss to endure events in her life that are worse than being in the Hunger Games?'. Well believe me, it's possible because it happens in this book. I didn't particularly love this book as much as the first and second one, but it did leave me satisfied at the ending. It made me really frustrated because when i wanted something to happen that would have made the part i was at very intriguing, the opposite would happen and i would want to throw something at the wall...no, i don't have anger issues. But overall, i didn't enjoy Mockingjay as much as I wanted to. If you are a fan of the Hunger Games trilogy, READ THIS BOOK BECAUSE IF YOU STOP AT CATCHING FIRE YOU WILL BE LEFT ON A NEVER ENDING STREET OF QUESTIONS!! |
