I woke up on a Friday morning to the sound of my almost broken alarm clock hollering at me to jump out of bed and walk to school. Aw, great- another day of sitting in a desk and taking notes on the next big test, then as I turn to look out the window.
“Come on... Seriously!” The sky completely dark and gray and with no sign of the sun I just wanted to fall back to sleep and hope that no one would notice. Then at the corner of my eye I catch a glimpse of my calendar. There it was in enormous and in bold letters, Color Day! “YES!” Today is the day that the Reds will win. As I make my way to school, I start to become a little nervous. The sky keeps getting darker and darker and I didn’t bring my jacket. All I want to do is turn around but it was already 8:20 and I wouldn’t make it to school if I did. So as I walk into my classroom everyone one is excited, yelling at each other, saying that their color is going to win. Then our Principal comes on the speaker and says alright teachers please send 1st grade then 2nd grade then lastly is us, then soon good old sixth grade. I never understood why younger grades had to go first is it because it would be too crowded for the children to go to where they had to or if it is a safety procedure or what. As we walk outside I start to worry that color day might be canceled because of the rain delay. Now by this point the teachers have two lines screaming at each other how reds are the best and blues are number one. Red and Blue confetti flying everywhere highschoolers running up and down between the lines trying to make their color pumped up. Then as we walk on the football field we can hear the loud and faint screams from the stands. The Reds on one side and the two year champions the Blues on the other. Then as the game starts i completely forget about it. All of us are cheering, “Go Go You Can Do It, Come On, Let’s Go!!!!” but as I looked at the sky I could see that it will obviously rain today and then at the same time the wind is treacherous and we are all freezing. Then as its our grades turn to compete I felt almost like someone is spitting on me which is not cool and something disgusting to do ,but when I turned around no one is behind me thats when I realized too look up that’s when I realized that the rain had begun. At this point I’m nervous because from the looks of it, this isn’t all of the rain ,but the start of it. Players doing their best to hold onto the rope for dear life while trying to rip the rope out of the other colors hands and at the same time with huge, fat drops of rain hitting them in the head. The mud splashing from left to right and pieces of grass getting ripped off the football field. It was a almost like macaroni being glued to a mask in preschool. When the rain started to pour hard teachers and the principals were leading their students too shelter. But both of the sixth grade teachers were not there, it felt like we were abandoned until our principal came asked us if we wanted to leave. As a true Red die hard player I wanted to watch the the rest of the game ,but only to watch the Reds lose again. For the second time in two years I walked home in the pouring rain in sorrow. Just another day of losing. When I walk into the door I am soaking wet ,but I didn’t really care. I decided to make myself a sandwich to end my hunger, but my stomach still felt empty. As I turned to walk out of the kitchen I noticed the puddles I had made and quickly ran to grab a towel before my parents found out. So I quickly cleaned up the floor and hid the towel in the laundry and slowly trudged up the the stairs as if I was walking in snow. I kicked my door open and once again I saw that same word in enormous and in bold letters Color day. Today is the day that the Reds lost again and this is my second time in two years that it has rained on Color day. But I still don’t understand why it had to to rain today.
