February 23, 1942- During WWII, America gets its first mainland attack by a Japanese submarine when it shelled an oil refinery near Santa Barbra, California. February 24, 1582- Pope Gregory XIII fixes the Julian calendar by taking out 10 days making the day after October 4, 1582, October 15th. February 25, 1972- Germany gives a 5 million dollar ransom to Arab terrorists that hijack a jumbo jet. February 26, 1815- Napoleon escapes the island of Elba, and he then continues his conquest of France. February 27, 1950- The 22 amendment to the US Constitution was ratified, which limiting the President to 2 terms or a maximum of 10 years. February 28, 1986- Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was assassinated in Stockholm while exiting a movie theater.
