May 22, 1761- The first life insurance policy was issued in Philadelphia. May 23, 1846- The first female attorney, Arabella Mansfield, is born near Burlington, Iowa. May 24, 1883- The Brooklyn Bridge, linking Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City, opened to traffic.
