December 20, 1606- The Virgina Company expedition to America begins as three ships, the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery, depart from London under the command of Captain Christopher Newport. December 21st- Winter begins in the Northern Hemisphere, while for the Southern Hemisphere it is the start of summer.
