January 16, 1547- Ivan the Terrible was officially crowned the first czar of Russia even though he was ruling Russia since 1533. January 17, 1966- A hydrogen bomb accident occurred over Palomares, Spain, as an American B-52 jet collided with its refueling plane. January 18, 1782- The American orator and politician Daniel Webster was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire.
