January 25, 1947- Al Capone, a famous gangster in Chicago, died in Miami from syphilis. January 26, 1996- After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Romania became the first former Cold War enemy to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). January 27, 1967- Three American Astronauts died as a fire erupted in Apollo 1 during a launch simulation test in Cape Kennedy, Florida. January 28, 1935- Iceland became the first country to legalize abortion. January 29, 1891- Hawaii declared Liliuokalani , who was renowned for her song Aloha Oe, as it's queen.
