May 4, 1924- the 8th Olympic Game occurred in Paris, France. May 5, 1893- The Wall Street Crash of 1893 starts with a dramatic decline in the stock market. May 6, 1527- The Renaissance ended with the Sack of Rome by German troops. May 7, 1718- Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville founds the city of New Orleans. May 8, 1828- Henri Dunant, founder of Red Cross and winner of the Noble Prize, is born in Geneva, Switzerland. May 9th- A national holiday in Russia, called Victory Day, commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in the "Great Patriotic War". May 10, 1889- A riot began outside the Astor Place Opera House in New York to revolt against dress requirements and Charles William Macready's (a British performer at the House) statement on the vulgar American lifestyle.
