November 3, 1839- The first Opium War begins between Britain and China after British frigates blew up multiple Chinese junks. November 4, 1956-Soviet troops moved to crush an uprising in Hungary. November 5th- Known as Guy Fawkes Day in Britain as an anniversary of the failed "Gunpowder Plot" to blow up the House of Parliament and King James I in 1605. November 6, 1860- Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th U.S. President and the first republican President. November 7, 1885- Canada's first transcontinental railway, the Canadian Pacific, was finished in British Columbia. November 8th- Bram Stoker (1847-1912) was born in Dublin, Ireland and is well known for his Dracula. November 9, 1938- Kristallnacht (the night of broken glass) occurred in Germany as Nazi mobs destroyed synagogues and Jewish shops.
