October 27, 1904- The New York City subway began running from City Hall to West 145th Street, becoming the worlds first underground and underwater rail way system. October 28, 1949- President Harry Truman appointed Helen Anderson to be the Ambassador of Denmark, making her the first female ambassador. October 29, 1618- British explorer Sir Walter Raleigh was executed for treason under King James I. October 30, 1485- Henry VII gets crowned King of England at Westminster Abbey. October 31st- Today is Halloween or All Hollows Eve! The origin of Halloween can be traced back to the Celtic holiday of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It was though that the transition of the seasons was also bridging reality to the world of the dead allowing ghouls and ghost to roam the earth. November 1, 1993- The European Union came into existence from the Maastricht Treaty. November 2, 1721- Peter I was proclaimed Emperor of all Russias.
