October 10, 1780- The Great Hurricane of 1780 kills somewhere between 20,000 to 30,000 people in the Caribbean. October 11, 1884- Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City and later became the wife to Franklin D. Roosevelt. October 12, 1960- Durring a debate over colonialism at the UN, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev took of his shoe and pounded his desk repeatedly.
